Today's Transformative Times Demand Transformational Leadership
Given that every leader is riding the seismic shifts in their company’s business models, culture, work ethics, and values, Robert Mixon masterfully spells out how they can be radically effective in this new environment. Drawing from years of transformational leadership in the U.S. Army plus decades of consulting work with business leaders in many fields, Robert Mixon clearly shows what has changed and how leaders can build a world-class culture. I highly recommend The Power of Being All In for every leader in every discipline in every type of organization.

The culture of the world has changed. In fact, one could say that our culture is in a state of chaos. This cultural shift demands leaders to abandon old attitudes and adapt new strategies to lead successfully. Robert W. Mixon, Jr. draws from his vast experience to teach us the how and the why to transform our leadership strategy. His latest book, The Power of Being All In, is a must read for today’s leaders.

Robert Mixon, Jr. has brilliantly captured the landscape of challenges inherent in today’s ‘Clash of the Civilizations.’ Through a thoughtful relook on how we should now think, lead, communicate and interact with others, he confirms that fighting today’s ‘wars’ with the ‘last war’s mindset’ will certainly result in a failed mission and an uninspired and unfocused workforce. This book and its lessons are a must read for those who wish to lead and succeed, whether in a war room, a board room, or a classroom.

Robert Mixon, Jr. concisely describes the effects of the pandemic, social unrest, and cultural changes on the workplace. The Power of Being All In provides a thoughtful road map and encouragement for leaders at all levels to prepare for and respond to a future of uncertainty. To help leaders thrive in a world where workers increasingly expect an efficient company culture and well-defined shared objectives, Robert Mixon, Jr. has written The Power of Being All In. The core values that resonated with me from this book are flexibility, inquisitiveness, and commitment. As a result of reading this, I have a better grasp of how to make the Big 6 Leadership Principles more resilient in the face of inevitable change.

Transformational Leadership Skills

The Power of Being All In is about the challenging leadership environment we are facing today brought about by political and social upheaval in the United States, the pandemic, global unrest, war in Europe and threats of war elsewhere, and economic stress. It summarizes the scope of change in each of these areas, describes what a healthy culture must look like now, and argues that uncertainty will be the new reality in which we must learn to lead and thrive. Most importantly, it teaches the leadership principles and skills required in this new environment.

This book reflects much of my leadership journey, particularly what I’ve observed and learned during the last five years. I wrote it because there’s a meaningful and instructive story here, driven by everything we’ve been through. Over the past several years, we’ve faced disease, war, social chaos, economic crisis—all on a scale none of us could have predicted. The scope of this astounding change has transformed our world and all of us as leaders, for better or for worse.

Regardless of the circumstances, leaders must step up when times are tough. Those we lead deserve it. If we don’t step up, we fail ourselves and them. Unfortunately, many leaders haven’t yet recognized that the current challenges and uncertainties have created an urgent need to grow their leadership capabilities and adapt to changing times.

I wrote this book to respond to that need and provide practical knowledge and training to prepare leaders to adapt and thrive in our new circumstances. For additional insights, I feature interviews with fourteen senior executives with experience in a wide range of industries and the military. They share lessons learned from these past several years, including wins and losses around strategy, staffing, operations, and tactics. Their experiences are invaluable in understanding where we’ve been and where we are likely to go.

About the Author

Major General Robert W. Mixon, Jr. retired from the U.S. Army in 2007 after more than 30 years of active duty. Robert commanded armor and cavalry units at all levels, from platoon to brigade.

He also led the Army’s Task Force Modularity, a team of highly skilled military and civilian experts chartered with changing the Army’s force design while at war. He also helped found the Warrior Salute Program for Veterans with PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) and TBI (traumatic brain injury). In 2014, he co-founded Level Five Associates, a leadership and strategic planning company serving companies and organizations nationwide.
